Fundraiser for VOCAL - Byron Bay to Newcastle - The Paddle For Peace

Preparations have well and truly begun for our paddle from Byron Bay to Newcastle later this year. Adrian and I will be setting off around November 1 and getting to Newcastle a week or 3 later depending on conditions ;). As well as being an awesome adventure, we will be using the event to raise money for Victims of Crime Assistance League and hopefully raising awareness on the issue of violence in our community.

We already have a number of people supporting the event. I will keep this post updated as new supporters come on board.

From the VOCAL site.....

Why support VOCAL?
VOCAL is a tiny organisation with a huge job. It supports survivors, families and the community to deal with the real life effects of all types of violent crime, at the same time it has a strong crime prevention focus. And, for nearly 20 years, we’ve fought to make the idea of justice for victims of crime part of the legal and other systems. Community financial support and community membership of the Organisation are crucial for our success in many areas - like preventing self-harm and suicide – a daily challenge.

VOCAL Inc NSW:

* Is a tax exempt charity – ABN 99 422 394085
* Is an Incorporated Association: Number: Y11707/43
* Has Tax Deductible Status (DGR) for donations over $2.00
* Holds a current Certificate to Fundraise for Charitable Purpose by NSW Department of Gaming and Racing

If anyone is inteested in supporting this cause you can contact me via this site or VOCAL on 02) 49265826 or by email at ceo@vocal.org.au.

Donations can be made at VOCAL donation.

Annie and I are keeping up to date with Sarah's daily report. Whilst the weather has not been perfect, you still seem to be making OK progress with no serious issues. To empathise (a little bit) with you, I had a bit of a paddle out through Swansea yesterday and headed out towards the waiting ships. Then the Nor'easter came in, and as I was by myself, I also decided to come in. It was a bit "bumpy" on the bar and I realised that I've got to get that roll going. Stay safe!

Keep going fellas - that's one and a half Hawkesbury Classics you've covered so far and not a single night's paddling yet; looks like you're doing it too easy (ha ha).

EPIRBhire - are supporting the trip by providing two PLB's at a reduced rate. Peter was a real pleasure to deal with and worth looking at for anyone who needs sat phones, VHF, PLBs, EPIRBS, GPS etc.

I should also mention that Rob Mercer has offered to throw in a free lesson for Adrian and myself to assist with getting us paddle ready. This will be invaluable as he really is a talented instructor. For those that don't know Rob you can check out The Balanced Boater.
