I think you should make it your goal to roll everyone's kayak in the klan. You would roll the Leopard easily.

Simon - Today I added another yak to my rolling CV; Graeme's (loaded up) Cetus. I thought this was a bit easier than the Mirage. Of the re-enter and roll - the "re-enter" is by far the trickiest bit, especially with my arthritic body and buggered kn…

Gelcoat repairs 3 Replies

Given that we have an esteemed kayak maker on this site, and I need to do some gelcoat repairs to the Leopard due to a roof rack encounter I was hoping to get some handy hints. How about it Bob?

Lessons learned from the Byron to Newcastle trip

Some thoughts: 1. Prior training is highly recommended - Rob Mercer is the man for me and he provided me with confidence, increased skills and invaluable advice. After the trip I realise that I stil…

Old Dog - Newer Trick

Simon - Yesterday I attempted the old "Roll and Re-enter". Nailed 3/3 in the "HMAK Banana" (although on the second attempt I initially only got up far enough for a gulp of air then had to roll up again) but no wet exits. Have now "dry rolled" all 3 singles - Avocet easiest, then F1, then Mirage (only 1 session in Mirage at a success rate of only 50% on 1st go and included a wet exit when totally buggered at final attempt - these Mirages are just too stable, right way up or upside down!)

Kayak Clean Up 1

Due to some less than ideal weather this week and having other holiday jobs to get through I left the first clean up paddle till today. I came back with a decent sized bag of rubbish and also had a very relaxing paddle in the rain. A good day.

The next paddle clean up will be the last Sunday in January 2010.

Kayak Klean Up

It seems each time I walk along the river or kayak the water ways I come across rubbish such as plastic bags, drink cans, bottles etc and it really annoys the hell out of me. Rather than just complain about it I thought I should do something constructive. So the last Sunday of each month I have decided to paddle the Manning River and collect as much rubbish as I can. Another good excuse for a paddle!

If anyone is interested in joining me let me know - I have spare kayaks for those poor souls wi… Continue

Inukshuk Expedition

These guys will be the first to kayak a demanding route through the Northwest Passage in one season; this journey is a 100% man-powered 2500 mile paddle over 85 Days. The aim of this expedition is to contribute to the state of knowledge regarding the amount, timing, and salinity of fresh water that fluxes from the Arctic Ocean through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago towards the North Atlantic.
